The Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Dr. Sahar Nasr met with the Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Mr. Aleksandar Bodiroza to discuss the cooperation plan between Egypt and UNFPA over the next five years, especially with regard to facing the growing population, a challenge Egypt is trying to overcome. Dr. Nasr pointed out that coordination with UNFPA all UN agencies was essential to support youth and Egypt’s development agenda.
UNFPA Representative mentioned that they were committed to supporting the right to live in good health and with equal opportunities, for men, women and children, noting that they would support Egypt in using required population data in policies for poverty combat programs and would assist the government in addressing the needs of future generations, besides the existing population. Within this context, Dr. Nasr mentioned that it was essential to focus on supporting those in lagging regions.
Mr. Bodiroza reiterated the UN’s full support of Egypt’s efforts to achieve its development goals, especially the national population strategy, adding that priority was given to youth and their problems.
